I have lots of IMPORTANT news regarding the site and members information - so please read on or print:
and welcome to Walkabout Crafts!
The site has been split into four main sections;
Gift Shop / Craft Topics / Free Gifts
Craft Topics Section
In the Craft Topics section there are two sections which may
interest you: 'craft publications' and 'craft supplies' - This
is ideal if like me, you have cupboards full or unused /
unwanted craft books / magazines / art and craft materials etc.
You can list any art or craft related items, new or second hand, FREE of charge.
also have a list of craft events and business opportunities.
Another section which will be of benefit to you is our 'promotion' page which will give you lots of tips and ideas for promoting your shop.
Gift Shop Section
In our gift section I have added sections for special occasions - so that you can have items listed all year round i.e. Valentines day, Halloween, Christmas gifts etc. Items can be added outwith your shop limit.
Anyone who is offering a special offer / sale / discount let me know and I shall also get it added for you.
IMPORTANT MEMBERS NEWS
To the left is a table with current members. If you hover your mouse over your name (do not click) your new url (web address) should be displayed in the corner of your browser page. If adding your url to your business cards / personal web site / facebook etc you do not need to put the http:// at the start of the url - simply put either e.g. www.walkaboutcrafts.com/businessname or www.walkaboutcrafts.com/businessname/ or www.walkaboutcrafts.com/businessname/index.htm
Please check your pages and also
your postal address / email / telephone number details to make
sure they are correct - any
changes, please let me know.
Contact information - All members have to provide at least one means of direct contact for customers; We strongly recommend you to supply a telephone number (even if it is a mobile), and also a direct email address - All email addresses on our web site are coded, which enables customers to see and send you an email, while preventing spiders and spam bots from harvesting it.
Unlike other web sites we want to encourage you to add your personal email, web site address, accept direct payment etc. We want to give members as many options to sell their goods as possible. If you have a personal web site then send us your web address and we will add a link - you can also put a link on your own personal web site to your shop here at Walkabout Crafts.
All members must provide their own method of accepting payment;
(The more payment options you can offer, the more likely customers will order)
Fortunately, most members already have their own paypal account, however, I would also recommend upgrading to a paypal business account, so that you can also accept credit card payments.
If you do not have a paypal account then I would strongly advise you to open one (If you need any help doing so then just get in touch). Once opened, all you have to do is send me the email address that you opened your paypal account with and I can redirect payments to yourself.
I can also add Google checkout if preferred, (just send me your google merchant ID).
Obviously, if you also accept direct credit card payments by phone / cheque payments /direct bank transfers etc then let me know the details.
Never dispatch any items until payment has cleared!
Receiving Orders - What to do?
1. When a customer orders
- it is courtesy for you to acknowledge their order via email or
Thank you for your order and payment received with thanks. I shall dispatch your item first thing tomorrow.
Any problems, just get in touch.
2. We also want to
encourage customers to give you feedback which I can add to
your main shop page for you.
If you can send all customers the text below, either via email or in with the order, then it will encourage them to send their feedback.
Thank you for your order, please take a moment to contact me and let me know what you thought of the service and product - your comments are always valued.
3. Always remember to put in a business card / compliment slip with the item in case the customer wishes to place another order - its also a good opportunity to include discount vouchers / catalogues / fliers etc
Paypal / Credit Card Payments
For those you have offered the option for customers to pay you direct via paypal / credit card please remember the following:
1. If you receive any emails from
paypal - do not reply or click on any links in the email - go
via the paypal web site to reply. 99% of paypal emails are spam
2. If you have not already done so, you can set up 'instant payment notification' on your paypal account - which will send a copy of the order to you via email.
3. If anyone needs any help or advice regarding paypal or online security then please get in touch.
I have also set up a page where customers
can order items from you which are not on in your shop - All members who
have paypal set up on their shop now have a page with a paypal button
where customers can type in their order and payment amount. Ideal if you
have received a special request or order from a customer - they can then
type in any amount you ask.
This page is named 'xdirect.htm' and is available by typing in your normal shop url and adding this to the end e.g. http://www.walkaboutcrafts.com/celticpriestess/xdirect.htm . You can then direct customers to the link and tell them to type in a code or their name and value of the item that you have both pre arranged.
For those who have offered the option for customers to pay you direct via cheque, I have clearly stated that orders will not be dispatched until cheque has cleared. I have also added beside your postal address - 'Strictly no private callers - postal address only'
There may be occasions where customers pay you for an item belonging to another member - simply refund the payment and contact them to tell them the reason.
All payments made direct to yourself are agreements between you and the customer - however if you need any help then just get in touch.
As you know we have a refund / replacement policy online which most members agree with - however please read the following VERY CAREFULLY!
'If the trader arranges for goods to be delivered to a consumer, the goods remain at the trader's risk until delivery. It is, therefore, the trader's responsibility to ensure that goods are not lost or damaged in transit, and/or to take out appropriate insurance. It follows that optional postal insurance should never be offered to consumers.' Trading Standards Consumer Contracts
By law all banks / credit card
companies / paypal and other merchant banker accounts etc - will
refund monies to customers if items have not been received.
As a seller, the customer has paid for you to to deliver the agreed item to their address. That is a contract of sale. If the customer does not receive the item then by law you either have to replace or refund.
Even if the item has been lost in the post and you have postal receipts - it is not the responsibility of the customer to contact the postal service or make a claim to royal mail for compensation etc. That is your problem and you are the one who has to sort that out with the delivery company - you must still refund or replace the item in the meantime.
So what is the point of having
refund and replacement policies? Good question - unfortunately
there is more protection for buyers than sellers.
The good news is that not a lot of consumers are aware of this - infact many are happy to chase up royal mail themselves or put it down to bad luck.
Regulations state that we have to display all refund / replacement policies online, however when it comes down to it - the customer is always right.
The reason I am letting you know is so that if in the very rare case a customer decides to have paypal / credit card payments reversed or is a paypal dispute is opened then you will know what the consumer laws are.
Problems with members
I have had to make a few small adjustments, to ensure we retain only genuine members.
You will notice beside each
member are 3 green stars - this means your fantastic!
Unlike other sites where you have to gain a reputation - we are doing the opposite.
All members will start with 3 stars on the assumption that you run a friendly and professional service, providing well made items.
All customers will be encouraged to leave feedback - if I receive a genuine complaint from a customer, or if there are problems with contacting / payments etc then a green star will be replaced with a grey star.
3 Grey stars and your shop will be closed. Sorry if this sounds harsh, but as said before, this will have no bearing on our genuine members.
I have also introduced an update scheme where I will contact all
members once every 6 months. This will be a simple link for you
to confirm that you are still in business and that all your
contact information is up to date.
There is nothing worse that trying to contact a member with an order only to find out that they have closed down or moved!
Removal of items / shop updates
Some members only have one item
in stock - if you sell your item, either via the web site or
another outlet - please inform me a.s.a.p. so that I can remove it
from the site.
Any new items to be added, will be uploaded twice a week, therefore please allow up to 7 days for new items to be listed.
Please also inform me of any changes to contact details etc or if you are no longer in business.
You can also forward feedback from your customers as well as your annual event details.
If you plan to go on holiday or will be away for more than 48 hours please let me know so that I can inform customers.
We have fliers which have also have a space for members to add their own 'stamp' 'shop link' etc - anyone who wants a bundle (packs of 50) then let me know.
Please also take a note of my contact details which are:
Brown, 2 South Port, Selkirk, Scottish Borders, Scotland, TD7
Telephone: 0773 328 4443
Monthly newsletters are at http://www.walkaboutcrafts.com/mailing.htm - please also add my email to your address book - to ensure you receive our mailing updates.
If there are any questions or suggestions then please get in touch - remember this is your web site!
Remember to share your shop!
If you go to to your shop page here on Walkabout Crafts you will find links at the top of each page where you can share your 'shop page' to your FB / twitter etc. It will also count how many 'shares' you have, so invite your friends and family to share your shop page to their social network site to increase your 'share' counter!
n.b. there are over 50 main social network sites that the icon allows you to share to - not just FB and twitter
Remember you can also share to the Walkabout Crafts facebook page - you can upload any of your items / promote your business / add images etc. Anything art craft related is more than welcome, remember to tag images and share with other profiles for more exposure.

Please remember to let me know of items that have been sold - so I can remove them from your shop - nothing worse than a customer ordering something that you no longer have available!
Please also check that your contact
details are up to date
****Remember if you have changed your email address on paypal to let me know****
Customers love the personal touch so all feedback received from customers shall be added to members main shop page - if you have received comments / feedback from your customers then send it through and I'll get it uploaded for you.

Do you have your own website?
A few members have told me that they have had to close down their own web sites (outwith Walkabout crafts) as they do not have the time / money to keep them going - Many hosting companies offer a free web forwarding service so you only pay for the domain and not the hosting. If you already own your own domain then ask your provider to point it to your shop url here at Walkabout Crafts - that way you don't need to pay the high hosting rates, you can keep your unique web address on all your business cards, and you don't have to do any of the work of adding or deleting items etc - worth considering?
6 month check up! Can all members please check their shop and ensure that contact details / items / prices are all correct. If there are any changes or deletions please let me know a.s.a.p.
